All right, now as our community is slowly growing here on the DDA Forums, I think it's time we set a few ground rules. This isn't me trying to be a jerk, but it's better for everyone if rules are in place.
Breaking the General Forum rules will result in a warning. After 5 Warnings (more than enough warnings for someone to learn not to do something), you will be temporarily banned. If, after the ban, the issues continue, you will be banned again for an increased period. Roleplay Section rules follow the same ruling.
On the General Forum itself
- Be polite, and be considerate. That's not to say you cannot voice your opinion or express distaste for something, but jumping in to personal attacks on someone, or going out of your way to cause trouble. Friendly ribbing is fine, but be sure to stop when you're asked to stop.
- Make sure your posts are relevant to the topic. If your comment doesn't add to the conversation in any way, shape or form, or is just entirely off-track to the point of not being a tangent anymore, please do not post to the section.
- Avoid Necroposting where possible. No one likes when a 3-year-old-topic gets dredged up again when it's been essentially settled. There are generally exceptions, such as giving legitimate input on an unanswered or ignored question, or adding to a thread that is simply open-ended and open to more additions, such as the Things Mr. Welch is No Longer Allowed to Do thread.
- Please keep content appropriate. I understand that things slip, but we want to keep this forum at a generally-family-friendly rating, but no worse than what would be T or PG-13 areas. No adult images or comments, no overly graphic images or comments, no intense foul language, please.
- No more than one thread per game involving Looking for Group. If you lose a player and require more, simply update the thread with a new response, and it'll come back to the top of the section. Exceptions will be made if the issue is looking for a GM when the original thread was posted in the Players section.
- Please post your topics in the appropriate sections. It can become a bit of a headache for an Admin to shuffle around multiple threads a day simply because people posted them wherever they wanted.
- While this is less a rule and more of a guideline to make things simple at a glance, when posting on Look for Group, please state the place your game will be taking place on (DDAForums, RPoL, Roll20, Mythweavers, etc) somewhere in the title. If you're playing a Live game, please state the day of the week and Time (with Time Zone) that the game would be happening. If you do not post it on the title, please post it on the primary post of the thread, unless you have no idea what kind of format you want to play in.
- Please only report people to an Admin if it's a legitimate violation of the rules. It's not very enjoyable to have to fact-check someone's accusations, only for it to end up being either exaggerated, or entirely false. Falsely accusing someone of breaking the rules is not welcome here.
Roleplay Rules
- When In Character, please post to the appropriate threads. Same issue as with the general forums.
- When In Character, please keep things PG-13 at worst. Again, this is meant to be a family-friendly forum, a few instances of the word 'damn' or 'hell' won't kill us, but harsher words and descriptions, adult descriptions, or massively graphic descriptions, may not work out well. I'm not saying characters cannot have love interest, cannot post about being hurt, or get angry, but try to have some common sense. If things MUST get too graphic for these forums, please take them to a private chat room on another site. It's nothing personal, I assure you.
- Unless an Admin or System Dev steps in, the GM has the final say in your game's rules if the rules are open-ended (some rules are obviously not up to interpretation, such as how Accuracy and Dodge work, or that connecting with an Attack deals an automatic 1 damage). Please respect your GM's setting and their story. If a GM feels like you are holding the story back in some way, such as sporadic posting times, poor post quality, constant IC or OOC drama, or otherwise, they have every right to eject you from the game.
- Please do not delete a post and then re-add the post with a new roll to adjust your score. An Admin can easily check the log and see if you deleted and re-posted. This is cheating, and it is not welcome here.
- Please do not metagame if it's at all avoidable. Do not make decisions purely on mechanics, do not make a decision simply because you know OOC it's the optimal choice. Using the same Attack over and over is one thing, that's how Digimon tends to work, cycling between 1 to 3 attacks tops, but things such as making Perception checks to see what sort of DC you need to hit, or taking a certain path in a Dungeon because the GM let something slip, or solving a puzzle IC with no issues with your Intelligence 1 character just because you know the solution out of character, is metagaming and it is frowned upon. The worthiness of offense is more up to the GM than anyone here.
- Repeatedly causing drama for the sake of drama, in character or out of character, is not something to do regularly. When it's once or twice in a campaign to make things interesting or because characters are butting heads like they do, sure not the biggest deal. But when drama is a constant issue in and out of character, it's a problem.
Overall, just try to follow the rules and everything should be just fine and dandy. I do hope they're not too harsh or too hard to follow.
