After getting to play the system again, I've noticed DP gains tend to feel very small. We fought 6 Gizamon and all we got was 1 DP. Afterwords, we fought Seadramon, which got us 1 DP, for the battle and 1 for gaining our champion forms. I mentioned to the GM that 2 DP for beating a Seadramon, just felt wrong, given that it had the boss template, and would've been a lot harder had it not tried clashing and got wrecked by high DPS (oversight on the GMs side) the only reason we eve managed that, was due to it nearly one-shotting two of the player Digimon, by throwing one into the other, which triggered Digivolution.
Is there a better way to handle DP? The GM gave us 4 extra DP for the Seadramon battle but still, it appears very hard to get DP, there hasn't been any real story elements, yet, we're just getting introduced into things, but it just seems 1 DP per battle might be too low and major story problems obviously aren't going to come up often (otherwise they wouldn't be major story problems) Torments will come up, eventually.

Gaining between 1 and 5 Bonus DP on an average session is pretty normal. Keep in mind that the relative numbers for base are low: so lower DP gains aren't a problem.
At the Rookie and Champion stages 5 DP is the equivalent of 25% and 12.5% of your Base DP to begin with. That's a pretty solid boost, and even at the Mega level that's a not-terrible 7% boost give or take. In a game without hard levels or the like, you'll see those little numbers add up pretty fast over time. If a GM wants a faster paced story they CAN award higher DP gains, however the way your GM is awarding it seems perfectly fine to me.
Additionally, DDA is a very hands-on system for the GM. Again, this system does not have hard levels or milestones which aren't built on narrative-driven scenarios; so unless the GM is purposefully tossing out things far higher in power than they should be, things should be manageable no matter what. Bonus DP is just that: a bonus, and at worst something to simply patch up unfinished Digimon builds over time. I can't think of many which wouldn't be somewhat cleaned up after 10-20 Bonus DP absolute max.

I'm running a campaign with only digimon characters, no digivices or anything. My plan is to assign 1 DP for critical role-playing moments, 2 DP for finishing each arc (depending on how fast they are obtaining DP) and 1DP per encounter unless they decide to download an oppenents' data into themselves a la Renamon in the early episodes of Tamers. My players will need 15dp to evolve so this should space out evolutions enough to make them special.
