I know I said I wasn't going to deal with the Fusion Loader in my campaign, but that is a slight lie. One of the NPCs is actually going to have it, so I've been tossing around a few ideas (and depending on the setting one of these might work better than the other). I just thought I would share them. First though, gonna reshare TM93's idea for it.
Honestly at a quick glance, just granting the Fusion Loader a bonus amount of Creation DP to Jogres Evolution/DNA Evolution based on either A) the number of Digimon used, or B) the Level of the final Digimon in question in addition to the normal amount of extra DP gained, say either +2 per Digimon used, or +7 Bonus DP over +5 Bonus DP for each Stage above Rookie achieved. It's a very specialized, but very 'best at what I do' type of Digivice.
This is fine, so long as you (or your players) don't really mind making as many forms as possible as this can get tedious, I think.
The second is a bit Hunters inspired, but to keep the number of forms under control. (Most of my thought went into the last idea cause I really think it could provide a unique setting and such with a little polish by a GM.) This was basically involves a new Quality called 'Xros Fusion' which a person can take (I'm gonna say 6 times, cause that was the max in the show) It starts as a 2 DP skill, and doubles everytime you buy it. (2, 4, 8, etc.) Obviously, with this form Digivolving isn't really necessary, although if you do want to keep Megas like the show go for it. You could even have the partners Mega form start with a rank of 2-3 if you want. Basically the thought is design each Digimon and assign like 1/2 the stats and Qualities (and all of the stats of the base) of the non-base Digimon to the finished form.
Now, I really want to talk about Hunters, because I liked what they did with the Fusion Loader. In this, each Hunter (or player in this case) can only have one Digimon out at a time instead of say 5 of them. Each Digimon can also be only be fused with one other Digimon at a time. As an example, I cannot fuse my Shoutmon, Ballistamon, Dorulumon because that would be three Digimon. If I wanted to do that I'd have to give one of them to another player to make the fusion. (They would still be allowed to have their own Digimon, but would be unable to fuse. However if the number was uped to 4 the two players would have to share the Digimon.) However, whats cool about this form, is since it is so limiting you could give players the full amount for the Xros Fusion as well as all the qualities. If you added in a few unique qualities, and weaknesses. You could keep the partners Mega form too as allowing players to use whatever Digimon they beat later this could actually make for a really interesting setting and campaign.
